July/Moving Update!!

Starting Work

Hey guys, sorry for the late newsletter. I’ll explain everything in this letter, but many exciting things are happening!

July Training

I spent the last week of July in Denver, CO for training where I learned more about how I can better minister to my future students at Jacksonville State University. I went to many different seminars and met so many people (500+ RUF staff were at training). Some of the different seminars were:

  • Philosophy of Ministry (POM)
This is how RUF does ministry. Our core values and beliefs. (If you would like to know more, please contact me)

  • How to lead a small group

  • How to have a one-on-one with a student

There were many other seminars and wonderful speakers. If you would like to learn more about what I learned, please reach out!
Another great part of training was being able to see and hang out with my friendterns!! I feel like this week really allowed me to solidify some friendships. I now have a great support group while I do this wonderful job.

Veronica and Emily

Two final praises about July training are being able to meet with my prayer group (we have been, and will be, meeting online once a month for support) and spending time with all of my previous and current Campus Ministers! It was such a blessing to be able to sit with my prayer group and share encouragement with each other as we go into this next phase of life. I’m very excited to be able to see them in person again in October!

I moved!!

Me and Robert super sweaty from moving

I officially moved to Jacksonville this past Friday! My mom, little brother, and I packed all of my belongings in a U-Haul and made the four-hour trek from Cookeville, TN to Jacksonville, AL. We arrived safely and nothing broke in the truck, thank God. Robert, Mom, and Daniel helped me unload and my family stayed the night to help me unpack everything on Saturday. My apartment is about 6 min from campus and directly across from Walmart (perfect spot). Saturday night was my first night in Jacksonville by myself. I was honestly beginning to feel very anxious about the move and the job, but I started to read “The Heart of Evangelism” by Barrs (my study program book) and was instantly comforted.

Barrs speaks about how Jesus told the apostles to “go and make disciples of all nations.” He continues on saying, “This little group of eleven ordinary people were to go to all the nations of the earth and turn their hearers into disciples of Jesus like themselves!” “Most of them had probably not traveled beyond their own little patch of the world… Yet these ignorant, unschooled men… were to go and teach the nations to obey everything Jesus had taught them… But Jesus also gave them some comforting words… He told them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’” “He defeats the false gods of the nations and breaks their power so that His disciples are able to go out into the world with confidence. “Wherever they would go, however hard the road, however challenging the situation, however unwelcoming the people, whatever their feeling of weakness, He would be beside them…” (Barrs 16-18)

This was such a great reminder of how I should be thinking during this job. I did not bring myself to this point. Christ did. It is through His righteousness and power that students will become His children; with or without me. This takes so much weight off of my shoulders. I know that I am not good enough for this job, but God is good enough for me. He will guide me through this even when I mess up. God does not need my help in bringing students to Him and equipping them to serve, but it is my absolute pleasure that He is using me and making me a part of it, and none of this would be possible without you and the way Christ has worked in your life and has opened your heart to generosity. This brings me to my final update.

I can start working!!

Literally, as I was writing this newsletter, I got an email saying I have officially reached 85% of my budget and have been cleared to start meeting with students and helping on campus!! I know I say percentage numbers all the time, so what does this mean? This means that with your help we have raised $42,400 for the entire year! How amazing is that?? The Lord has been so generous! This means that I am allowed to go on JSU’s ministry team retreat this weekend and will be able to start having meetings with students next week.

While this news is absolutely fantastic, I still have a bit to fundraise in order to be fully funded. Just $7,430 more and I will be fully funded for the year. That’s only $800 per month. If you or anyone you know would be interested in speaking to me and learning more about RUF and what we do, please give them my contact information! I can’t express my gratitude to you all enough!

Prayer Requests

  • Praise God for keeping me and my family safe during the move and for providing for all of my financial needs during this process!

  • Praise God for the new donations coming in and for each of you!

  • Please pray for this weekend as we go into our Ministry Team Retreat. Pray that we are able to plan out the semester thoughtfully and that I make good connections with the students.

  • Please pray for any upcoming meetings I have with students.

  • Praise God for my Campus Minister, Daniel Hightower, and his family for being so kind and helpful during this transition!
